Parramatta Telephone Exchange, Sydney

Before

After

Parramatta Telephone Exchange, Building No 2 was built in the early 1970’s as a standalone eight story building and is comprised of concrete encased structural steel beams and columns, conventionally reinforced concrete slabs and concrete shear walls with structural steel stiffening.  In the past few years the building façade showed major concrete deterioration and stress and was therefore in obvious need of repair.  Telstra Exchanges house federally legislated “Essential Services”.   As the building is only one of thirteen “Strategic Sites” it was imperative that the level of structural degradation should not impede the ability of the building to house these essential services.

Crest Restorations Pty Ltd was commissioned to do this prestigious project due to its experience and expertise in working on highly sensitive sites as well as it strong quality assurance procedures and concrete repair knowledge. The building was occupied during construction.  The project was finished on time and budget.

Crest Restorations Pty Ltd was awarded the national prize for excellence in concrete repair from the Australian Concrete Repair Association in 2006 for this project.

The work generally comprised:

  • Extensive concrete repair (more than 10,000 litres)
  • Epoxy injection
  • More than 1100m2 of protective coatings
  • Several hundred metres of joint sealant
  • 50m2 of steel dowelling and mesh installation as part of the concrete repair methodology
Project Value: between $500,000 and $1,000,000
