Concrete elements such as slabs, columns and beams are sometimes found to be inadequate in strength to be able to meet service loads. This can occur if the concrete elements have been damaged by impact, movement or corrosion; under-design at the time of construction or even because of a change of use of the elements (for example, a particular room may have had load bearing walls removed to increase its size).
In such cases the concrete elements need to be strengthened to make it safe for purpose. Traditionally strengthening has occurred by use of steel beams and plates or even reinforced concrete supplements. Such techniques, although still used, take up valuable space and can be unsightly.
Carbon Fibre strengthening has become a very popular alternative to the traditional strengthening techniques as it is installed in half the time, is less messy and takes up virtually no room on the structure.
Crest Restorations specialize in traditional, as well as carbon fibre strengthening techniques.
